The Government Attorney Office, with the organic rank of an Undersecretariat, is the administrative body in charge of providing a public legal service of excellence under the terms established in Law 52/1997 of 27 November, of Legal Assistance to the State and Public Institutions and complementary regulations.

Said legal assistance consists of providing advice, representing and defending in trials, from all law specialties, the General State Administration and its autonomous bodies, the constitutional bodies and, under agreement, other territorial administrations and entities of the institutional public sector at the state, regional and local levels, as well as senior officials and public employees performing their duties. Likewise, it consists of defending the Kingdom of Spain at an international level.
