The Minister highlighted the consolidated advances in what he defines as “the greatest transformation of Justice in decades”

The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, participated on Friday at the closing of the 39th Assembly of the Francisco de Vitoria Judges Association (AJFV), held in A Coruña. During the event, the association elected their new spokesperson, María Enma Ortega, whom Bolaños congratulated for the appointment.

During his talk, Bolaños recalled the Public Service of Justice reforms implemented by the Government, and requested a respectful, informed and constructive dialogue to generate and consolidate consensus in this regard.

Bolaños claimed that this legislature has undertaken “the greatest transformation of justice in decades” and highlighted that half of the ambitious legislative agenda planned for justice has already been completed.

Justice reforms already established

Among the advances completed, he pointed out Royal Decree-law 6/2023, a milestone in the digitization of the system, and the Law of Justice Efficiency, which transforms and modernizes a judicial organization of the 19th century, and which will be fully implemented by 31 December.

The Minister also underlined two essential reforms pending final approval. Firstly, the Organic Law to expand and reinforce the Judicial and Prosecutor Careers, which will represent the greatest increase of the judicial organization in history with nearly 2,500 new positions for judges and prosecutors in the next three years.

Furthermore, Bolaños also referred to the future Organic Law of Criminal Procedure, recently sent to Congress, which will modernize our criminal system with greater guarantees for all involved. A reform which, he assured, would pose no risk of politization.

The Minister reaffirmed his intention to defend the justice reforms at major judicial fora. Recently, he also participated in the 39th Congress of Judges for Democracy as well as in the 21st Congress of the Independent Judicial Forum.
